After Your BPD Test Results: Practical Next Steps

Finishing a free online BPD test can feel validating or overwhelming. Use your score as information, not a permanent label. These steps help you move from screening to support.

  1. Step 1

If you screened positive (7+ yes)

Book an evaluation with a psychologist, psychiatrist, or licensed therapist. Ask whether they treat personality disorders or offer DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). Bring your score as a starting point—not as self-diagnosis.

  2. Step 2

If you screened negative but still hurt

Support is still appropriate. Anxiety, depression, trauma, and other conditions can feel similar. Tell a provider what symptoms interfere with daily life.

  3. Step 3

    If you are in crisis

Call or text 988 in the U.S., or use local emergency services. Online quizzes cannot keep you safe in an emergency.

  4. Step 4

    Prepare for the appointment

Write examples of relationship conflict, mood spikes, impulsive urges, and self-harm risk if relevant. Note how long patterns have lasted and what helps even a little.

  5. Step 5

    Build skills while you wait

Sleep, reduce substances if they worsen moods, and practice grounding or distress-tolerance skills from reputable DBT workbooks. Skills are not a substitute for therapy, but they can stabilize the wait.
