What Is a GAT? General Achievement Test Explained
A General Achievement Test (GAT) is a cross-subject academic snapshot. Unlike a single-subject quiz, it samples core school skills so students and parents can see where fundamentals are strong or shaky.
Why people take a GAT
Families use general achievement diagnostics before tutoring, after a tough semester, or as a warm-up before longer standardized practice. Teachers and tutors may use similar samples to decide which domain needs drills first.
What Tests Pro includes
The free online General Achievement Test on Tests Pro has 16 multiple-choice questions: four each in reading and language, mathematics, science, and social studies. You receive an overall percentage, a readiness band, and per-domain scores.
What it is not
This GAT is not an official state assessment, SAT, ACT, school placement exam, or admissions credential. It is original practice content for study planning only.
How to use your result
Focus study on the lowest domain for one to two weeks, then retake. Pair with SHSAT practice if you are preparing for NYC Specialized High Schools, or with classroom materials for general review.
