OCD Test guide
After Your OCD Test Results
A score is a starting point. Use these steps whether you landed below or above the screening cutoff—and get emergency help immediately if you might hurt yourself or someone else.
Step 1
Read the number as a signal
0–10 is a minimal range on this screen. 11–20 is mild to moderate. 21+ matches a common OCI-R cutoff suggesting follow-up. None of these bands diagnose OCD or replace a clinical interview.
Step 2
Write down what takes time or distress
Note rituals, checking, washing, ordering, or thoughts that steal hours or sleep. Specific examples help a clinician more than the total score alone.
Step 3
Consider ERP-informed care
If symptoms interfere with daily life—or your score is 21+—look for a psychologist or psychiatrist experienced in OCD. Exposure and response prevention (ERP) and related CBT approaches help many people. Medication decisions belong with a prescriber.
Step 4
Retake only as a check-in
You can retake after treatment or when symptoms change. Do not use repeated screens as a compulsion or as a substitute for therapy.
Step 5
Use crisis resources if needed
This tool is not for emergencies. If you may hurt yourself or someone else, call or text 988 (U.S.) or your local emergency number now.
